The second pharaoh of the First Dynasty
Also known as: Hor-Aha
King Aha is well attested in the archaeological records, but only by his Horus name. As throne names were not yet invented, the consensus is that the names of the early kings in the Abydos king list Teti, and the Turin papyrus' Ity, are instead nebty names. The royal annals on the Palermo Stone only preserve the last two years of Aha's reign. In the king lists of the New Kingdom, the nebty names were placed into cartouches as the scribes were unable to recognize or locate the corresponding names for the kings from the ancient sources.
